  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • When working at boots I was given an overview of the store and how the system works. I was asked to stocks shelves and also ask customers if they needed any help. I also worked on the till but I found this fairly difficult so luckily I was able to have flexible work to suit my needs.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've learnt more about stocking shelves and ensuring customers are always happy and develop my people skills. I also learnt how to use a till even though j was not very good at it! I would say it was worth the work experience as I did learn or develop skills whilst I was there.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoyed the programme, everyone who helped me was very helpful, I was always asked how I was getting on and not left on my own to sort myself out. I felt comfortable to ask questions and also get the help I needed. I enjoyed the work I did as well as it was varied and different for me.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Boots?
  • I felt very valued as I was always asked how I was and the staff were really helpful and chatty. I was included in all conversations and made to feel as part of the team. I would definitely work there again as I enjoyed my experience. I was also given help when needed and other staff helped me with any problems.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think it was fairly well structured as my work was varied and flexible to my needs and likes. I was given training by staff member which rotated on different days for whichever job I was doing and enabled me to meet most of the staff this way too.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I received a lot of support and I was very happy with how I was treat and looked after. They asked me questions about my needs and whether I needed any special assistance or help with both work or any personal problems, disabilities etc. So they ensured I was looked after and treated equally and fairly.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I received some support from my direct employer however it was mainly a group effort with the staff to look after me and ensure I was doing well and keeping up. I cannot complain about the manager of the store as they organised my work experience and ensured that the staff members looked after me well.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I was not paid for my work experience but I was given brochures about the wage packets when working at boots and they seemed higher than what i thought you would get for a shop worker. I would happily go back and work for them again. I think that boots pay their employees fairly well, definitely not all minimum wage and they are treated very fairly and the business as a whole is very decent.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I think there are opportunities to change boots store chains if needed although it will depend on the quantity of staff however they encourage staff where I worked to have work nights out and meet ups to better know everyone as well as include them in knowledge of other opportunities and career choices and how they can better themselves within work.

  • 9. Would you recommend Boots to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I really enjoyed my experience at boots and I was trained and looked after too. They helped me with any problems and queries as well as any questions I had about job offers at boots. I think I will try for a job at boots as the wages seem fair and better than I expected for a store job as well. I would definitely recommend it for a part time job.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Boots?
  • I would say to be themselves and ask questions and show enthusiasm about the job. I think it is a good career for anyone wanting a part time job and who is a people person and does not mind working in a shop environment. The employees I worked with like someone who opens up and shows charisma and enthusiasm too. I would also say to learn about the brand and show you care for the company too.
