  • 4. How valued do you feel by BAE Systems?

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My apprentice programme is very organised with having reviews every 12 weeks to be told how I am getting on, what I still need to do/achieve and any targets/deadlines I need to meet. My team leader always supports me in my work and will always be there to help if and when I need it and will always provide feedback to my apprentice co-ordinator to let them know how I am improving and coming on.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The support is there from your training provider - it is up to you whether you choose to use it especially if you are struggling. They will always help you out or do their best to help you whatever the situation and they make you feel you know you can go to them for help whenever you may need it.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support from BAE is also excellent. They have all the right people in place to be there for you, and they also advise to become a part of the union so you also have their support too. They recognise potential and they will put you through further education if they think you can go further within the business.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • You can't really ask for much more as your salary. I think it is a very good wage for apprentices especially the younger ones with most of us not having much to pay for (mortgage etc) so the money couldn't really be any better. There is still always things such as overtime and shifts on to help improve your pay as these are available all the time.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Throughout your apprenticeship, there are things you can do such as be a STEM ambassador, go to colleges and schools and tell other children about what we do as a lot of them will also want to come work here. There are also other things such as innovation challenges to get involved with and a lot of the gyms and fitness centres give offers to BAE employees as an incentive to join.

  • 9. Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a world where you are always learning even after you come out of your time, you are basically being paid to learn a number of new skills and you meet lots of different people on the way who will help you in learning these new skills and the support you get while you are doing it is brilliant.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • Don't be afraid to apply for something you don't really think is 'you'. It is amazing what you can learn and achieve whilst learning and think of all the possibilities that will come out of working for such a good business and all the different places it could take you!
