This involves helping the radio production team, going out and getting voxpops, speaking to the public, editing audio and making radio packages. Also recording and editing video. Looking for stories online and writing them up for BBC Local Live.
Learning how to speak for broadcast, how to write succinctly and quickly. Learnt audio and video editing. Also doing a full NCTJ course and learning media law, ethics and regulation.
Firstly, we are a tight knit group who were chosen for the apprenticeship. We get to see all parts of the organisation and work with different types of people. It's one of the very best opportunities a person can ever get in their life.
Very valued. They make it known that they like diversity and respect and inclusion is built right into the core of the BBC. Managers are very down to earth, understanding and open minded. There's a really good culture.
I was given a full timetable, placed on a full journalism course and am set up with placements around the BBC some of which are of my own choosing. There was a full induction, there are regular amazing training sessions and a firm support system in place. I have a mentor and buddy at work too.
Tutor is only an email away and provides regular feedback. They make sure you keep on top of all the college work and have a very good plan set out for us to learn everything. It's a real enjoyment.
Full support and mentoring from manager and mentor. They are very flexible and helpful and understanding. They listen to concerns and try to agree with any requests and there is so much help and support all around.
The salary is standard for any apprenticeship at a major organisation. Travel, some meals and accommodation is provided and paid for by the company. Otherwise, the salary meets the costs.
The BBC is a massive organisation, there are so many opportunities and schemes to get involved in. There could be more exposure of advertising of them but I've played football with my colleagues outside of work.
Yes
It's a more open and friendly organisation than people think. They provide you with absolutely everything you need to succeed. There is so much help and guidance and the programme structure is amazing. It's one of the best experiences ever.
Be passionate, research loads, make sure you have examples of when you have done similar things before. Really go for it, it is possible.
