  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a digital journalist apprentice. I create content for social media platforms as well as radio. I speak to different members of the community about local stories that my station could speak about on air or create social media content for. I help to create packages and I have been part of large projects such as Children I Need in my local station.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes. I am studying towards an NCTJ which is helping me to gain all the skills I need to be a professional journalist. I have gained broadcasting skills which allow me to help set up a live show and editing skills in both video and audio.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love my programme as I really get along with the people I work and train with. I feel really proud to be working for such a great organisation who give young people the opportunity to work in the industry. It has met all of my expectations and has allowed me to develop new skills. My team is very helpful and I learn something new from them everyday.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BBC?
  • I feel very valued and appreciated in my work. I am recognised for my achievements and I am trusted with important projects. I feel very involved in all the projects at work and have also been recognised outside of work for my achievements.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very well organised and structured. I know when I am away for training and know the type of training I will receive in advance. I have great support from people inside of my job and inside the academy.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I am provided a great deal of support from my training provider. They are extremely helpful and offer great communication when I need it.

  • I receive a lot of support from my employees, manager and mentor. They are very helpful and offer support in a number of areas.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • It meets my costs well. I have enough money for daily living costs and extra money for social costs as well.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • We have social events and clubs outside of work. We have Christmas parties as well as outings as a team.

  • 9. Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is an amazing opportunity and I am having such a fantastic experience which has changed my life. I am learning lots of skills that I need to become a confident journalist. I have also met some close friends through training and I have had the chance to network with people within the organisation.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
  • I would recommend that they build up experience and take lots of opportunities. Work experience is a great way to understand the industry before applying for a role and will allow you to understand how the apprenticeship may work before hand.
