  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job role is a trainee software engineer, my day to day roles includes checking our build server to see if our codes have run overnight and if not why, deep investigation on bugs and faults, interacting with my team if any problems arise and finding out how to fix them, working on individual projects and having little coding tasks set out for me to complete.

  • I have developed a lot of my skills in electronics and computing. I have also gained new numerous skills in a wide range of engineering already being at Stannah. • The inductions were really good; it was nice to meet all the managers and to get my face around there. The training I am receiving on a daily basis is excellent and I am so grateful. The support from everyone is really good, I know where to go to if I need help and there is always a friendly welcome whenever needed. • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My training provider is my uni, they don't ask how we are doing individually but I know the support is there when I need it and they will always help out. The student weblearn we use to stay on track of my progress and modules is excellent I am glad they have that! Their attitude to learning is almost as good as my attitude to learning so there is nothing wrong with that.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive endless amounts of support from my employer it makes me feel really comfortable. My manager is excellent I am glad I have him as a role model; the HR team were really helpful prior to my arrival and continue to support me and everyone else on a daily basis. It’s easy to get support whenever I need it and without failure there is always someone there to help me which is fantastic. Everyone's attitude to helping me is overwhelming and I am forever in their debt to helping them I hope I do a better job than them in the future in supplying help to either themselves or other apprentices.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Considering I am a trainee and my pay now beats my pay as a full time in my previous job I am satisfied, living costs is fine but I do live at home so haven't experienced that! The performance plan Stannah do monthly is also very generous and it’s nice to have a little more in your pocket all thanks to their generosity and kindness! Travelling costs is fine I only live 10 minutes away and the location is excellent for me.

  • 9. Would you recommend Stannah to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because Stannah take pride in their image and in their employees, they want the best for everyone and will always ensure to support that. The atmosphere and environment surrounding me make me feel happy to work for Stannah, there is no other company close to what Stannah can do for you which is brilliant. They take pride in their work and so they should, Stannah is a great company to work for and if you get given the opportunity to come work with us don't be a fool to turn it down as the opportunities are endless. I wake up an want to come to work, every day I enjoy and not many people can say that nowadays.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Stannah?
  • Be yourself. Show that you want to learn and have your attitude in the correct place and you will not struggle when in the interview. My interview was scary but that was because it meant so much to be! I showed I am eager to learn and my personality must have been good too! if you have the right attitude to work/learn then you won’t fail. The on boarding process was a little slow but that was not Stannahs fault at all, the HR team made sure everything was running smoothly and kept me up to date on a regular basis! If I was going back to the past to talk to myself before the interview I would say "be yourself, show you want to learn and that you are keen to learn. If you get a no it’s not the end of the world, it is a 2 letter word with one meaning ... at least you tried! With success, first comes an endless amount of failure".
