  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • To watch and learn from a qualified engineer. This mostly involves working on disabled lifts, passenger lifts, goods lifts ect. I will work in many different locations such as ealing, Dartford, Wembley, Folkestone ect. One day a week I will do a day release at North Kent Collge where I am studying for a level 3 qualification.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many skills, mostly mechanical and electrical. I have become a better engineer by gaining experience with certain tools and electrical equipment. I know how to use a multimeter, probes, oscilloscope and other electrical equipment through my apprenticeship. I have also gained knowledge on coding and parameter setting on lifts and how to wire up a controller.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy all parts of my apprenticeship. I like working by myself SO I can get used to being independent. I also like working as a group as communication is a very important part of my apprenticeship. Speaking to other engineers on the job as well as other other the phone is vital to ensuring lift goes back into service. Overall, I enjoy all aspects of the job

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Stannah?
  • I feel very valued by Stannah. I receive daily feedback from my managers and other co-workers. They give me advice on how I can improve as an engineers, both mechanically and electrically. For example, during my NVQ my assessor is always giving me feedback. Whilst at college y tutor is always giving me feedback for my coursework.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is well structured. When I stated at Stannah I was given a 4 day induction Andover, our main office, where I was given information bout the health and safety aspects of lift engineering. I am constanley given on the job training, training is always given at college, and training is always available externally from Andoever.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I receive a lot of support from many other different employees within the branch. I always receive support from the Dartford Branch for my NVQ and will always receive support from my tutor t college. They are always happy to help me out with any problems that I need sorting out.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive alot of support from my employer.If I ever have a problem at work I can always speak to my manager and other employees within the branch face to face or over the phone. My employer is always happy to help me out whenever I need there help. I know I can speak to the HR team, mentors and any manger at STannah

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Salary meets my costs. My salary meets my living costs. My salary also meets my travel costs. My salary meets my daily costs, from day to day. Furthermore where I live my salary also meets my location costs, year to year. Overall, my salary package meets all my costs during my Stannah apprenticeship.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes, there are many opportunities outside of work. There are many company events, such as fun raising for charity. There are occasional company events. There are many voluntary initiatives available as an apprentice at Stannah Lifts, this ranges from the local community, sports, clubs and even classes available over the week and weekend.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • There is a lot of knowledge and experience to be gained through an apprenticeship at Stannah lift. You will work in many different locations and every day will be different. You will be working on different lifts and be developing different skills and gaining new knowledge a and experience through an apprenticeship at Stannah lifts


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Stannah?
  • Be prepared to work by yourself as well as a team. The application process can be long and hard but is worth it at he end as your gaining a job that gives knowledge and experience throughout the apprenticeship. There will be an interview which you need to prepare for which will take up to 3 hours. Overall you will gain a lot of experience and opportunities as part of your apprenticeship.
