  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My current role involves my working with different engineers covering both servicing and repairing of lift, I help with all taspects of this. To give me a better understanding of lifts and to further my knowledge. I am currently on the small repair team, which sees me attending different sites each day with numerous small repairs along side an experienced engineer

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Throughout my apprenticeship I have worked on servicing and repairs, servicing I feel has given me a better understand of the faults with lift, how to identify these and also what needs to be done to repair these. Working on the small repair team has allowed me to learn how to repair a lift and also how it works. I have been on numerous training courses supplied by my stannah

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed the training programme as I feel it has given me a very good understanding of lifts, their faults and how to rectify these faults. I also feel that it is a supportive company to work for as they provide any training asked for

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Stannah?
  • Stannah is a large company But is family run and I feel that this is noticeable when working for them, manager meant in my branch are always supportive to engineers and apprentices and I feel that as an apprentice I am given suitable task which have grown in responsibility as I have continues.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • From Stannah’s side it is well structured, I am out on training courses regularly to further my knowledge, I have regular contact with my manager about my progress, however the NVQ side is covered through an external company and I feel that this could be improved with more contact

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My training provider on my NVQ side is an external company, I feel that I haven’t received enough support, only seeing my assessor twice throughout my NVQ, for 10mins at a time.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Support from my employer is much better than that from my assessor, I am out on numerous tra8ning sessions, have regular meltings with my manager on my progress, however the hr team have caused, issue, putting my wages into the wrong account, not paying right etc

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The wages for this apprenticeship are better than most but I feel that they should increase throughout (as you get more qualified) I have undertaken a BTEC level 3, a HNC and my NVQ I feel that each time a milestone is met and increase in wages should occur, this will provide more encouragement. I do however travel to work most days in my own car paying for my own fuel, this is not great as I am on apprentice wage and spending almost £20 a week on fuel. I feel this should be subsidied

  • Yes

  • They are a good family run business and provide a supportive environment to work in.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Stannah?
  • Be prepared and keen to learn, there is so much to learn about lifts, and each day you learn something knew, take all opportunities for training, it can only help.
