The service and repair of passenger lifts. This requires driving to multiple sites throughout the day to complete maintenance activities on a scheduled maintenance basis. It is also necessary to respond to call-outs to broken down lifts and to release trapped passengers.
I have learned many new mechanical and electrical based skills to provide me with the knowledge to maintain and fix lifts on my own. These skills include job based training with an experienced engineer and also studying the fundamentals of these skills at college.
The job can be very rewarding when you use the skills you've learned and apply them to fixing lifts and the fact you organise and manage your own daily workload gives an element of freedom that you don't get working in an office.
I feel my contributions are valued by Stannah and that I am valued as a part of a functioning team.
The apprenticeship is structured very simply and the work can be managed quite well. Personally my apprenticeship changed framework providers part way through which caused some disorganisation but I feel that has now been sorted.
Regular meetings to discuss progression through NVQ and the apprenticeship as a whole help to keep the training moving forward and if help is needed they are always willing to discuss matters on the phone or via Email.
Support, advice and guidance is always available through either the training department or through the management team in branch.
Compared to most apprenticeships the salary is very competitive and for the average apprentices situation would be very good. Personally I live away from home and have my own bills to pay and I managed with the apprentices salary.

Yes
It is a good place to work with a good team of engineers and management. If you enjoy hands on work and working in different locations as opposed to sitting at a desk it can be very rewarding. The salary is more generous than most apprenticeships I have seen and the opportunities to gain additional qualifications once complete are very good.
Due to the nature of the work that Stannah do I would recommend that they can show that they can work maturely and work sensibly when on a site and it is a good idea to be able to drive or at least learning as a driving license is needed before you finish the apprenticeship.
