  • To join in with the permanent way gangs which are out on track doing maintenance on the railway

  • Learnt a lot of new skills which are all very specific to the railway but also developed my communication a lot since joining and realised how important it is to speak to each other

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Very good programme for me as I like manual work rather than sitting inside at an office and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an apprenticeship that is not office based

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Network Rail?
  • I feel very valued by network rail becuase of how much money and time they are putting into my improvement. People are taking time to show me how they are doing certain tasks and helping me with any problems which I might have.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure of the programme is good however the organisation of it isn't always the best that it could be, they are not always 100% sure on is going to happen when you are at the year 2/3 training building in HMS Sultan and have changed there decisions last minute for some things.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I receive a lot of support from people who provided the training, if I had any questions they would be able to answer them quickly over email or a phone call.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I also get a lot of support from my employer Network rail, they have a lot of benefits and people around me at my depot are always happy to answer any questions I might have.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • For the role I have at my depot my salary is good enough, there is always the option of doing overtime and night shift if I wanted to earn a little more money one month.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes network rail have many benefits which give you a discount at activitys outside of my work.

  • 9. Would you recommend Network Rail to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Very good opportunity to work for a reliable company that should always be around. Also the amount of training they put into you is amazing and I'm not sure other company's would offer as much


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Network Rail?
  • Make sure to speak up at an interview and listen to other people's ideas. It's most important to show that you are a team player and have communication skills already there.
