  • Signals Apprentice - At the minute it involves studying at the academy where i am completing my Btecs and NVQs.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Developed skills when it comes to working with electrical equipment especially when it comes to soldering, through the ILM course i have improved greatly when it comes to speaking in front of people

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Very much as it interests me every day and is preparing me for joining my depot in a way which is making me feel excited. It met my expectations well and has exceeded them in some areas.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Network Rail?
  • Good work is recognised when it is done, the system is an done in AAR and positive ones are handed out for exceedingly good work or outstanding personal achievement.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well organised, deadlines are always outlined clearly along with a strcutured programme. The induction from the academy was very useful as it eased me into the course and gave me a good idea of what i would be doing for the next 9 months.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • More than enough for me to achieve the grades i need. Any issues with resubmissions can be resolved easily as the instrcutors are always on hand to give out advice and support when needed.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • A good level of support is given from all. When it comes to queries about the next 2 years it is easy to communinicate with staff and they always respond quickly.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • It is fine as food and board are covered so it is all your own money, which is good as i can buy the things i want and still have enough left over to save and pay for driving lessons.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • After work there is always a full programme of things to do, this ranges from football to killer pool. Also at work there are events running all the time for the apprentices.

  • 9. Would you recommend Network Rail to a friend?
  • Yes

  • As it has given me a step on the job ladder and set me up with a career potentially for life


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Network Rail?
  • Check everything through and make sure you do your research when it comes to the phone interview! Be confident and always relate your previous expereinces to the job
