  • Learning a multitude of different engineering subjects in BTEC and NVQ performance pieces.

  • A lot of new skills in relation to the actual job role which will serve me well in year two and three.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the company of the other apprentices as well as the facilities and instructors. Some areas I feel could benefit from clarity due to the lack of information on how we transition from year one to year two.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Network Rail?
  • We aren't too sure how we fit in as of yet, though the depot I have visited who will be my work place in the next few years is exceptionally welcoming and fills me with confidence that I am valued

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Sometimes the buses are late or do not turn up Some information is not spread as far as it should and so there's some guesswork involved sometimes.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • A large amount if I seek it. They are there to get us through the apprenticeship which I appreciate very highly

  • Some information My depot will be on hand to help with my WBLOs

  • I will need to move to be closer to my work in the second year

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Very few due to the area. I go rowing so I have my own outside interests. Other apprentices have to entertain themselves in the form of snooker.

  • 9. Would you recommend Network Rail to a friend?
  • Yes

  • A large amount of money in the roles as well as a fair view at progression


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Network Rail?
  • Keep trying. I kept trying in the application stage. Also you should know if you want it, and WHY it is that you want it. You should remember this when talking in an interview and the passion will flow
