Digital Engineer Review

My role is Digital Engineering and on a day to day basis I work on Modelling and producing a virtual full scale 3D model of a project where information can be taken out from. We use BIM to carry out all our works.

I have learned a lot of construction knowledge upon nearly completing my first year, I also have learned how to use the ArchiCAD software to model different construction elements. I have learned to personally and professionally develop myself within and outside my role.

I like working in office rather than on site and I enjoy working for Digital Engineering due to having a very different work view on each project. There is always area for improvements and learning to do new things.

I feel that LOR is a very good company to work for, they are sponsoring me with my degree as well as a paid salary to work for them throughout and after my programme finishes. We as Cadets are the forefront of growing the business in the future and LOR works hard to ensure we are trained and experienced well to do so.

LOR has started the cadet programme 5 years ago and have organised and changed several things in my year compared to how they ran it back on the first couple of years. They have developed the programme to ensure cadets are trained well during the programme.

At LOR I have been assigned a Line Manager and cadet buddy who are constantly helping me out with whatever I am struggling with. We also have 3 cadet modules every year to track our progress and keep us focused to work hard.

I can manage with the salary package all right considering they are also sponsoring me with uni. The company also increases salary after every year so I know I won't have much of a problem to manage in the near future either.

LOR is partnered with a lot of different schools and sectors and offers things like volunteering jobs outside of work for those who are interested. There are also opportunities to change role whilst at the programme which creates a good flexibility for the individual.

I am very happy with this company and am glad I chose this route rather than going to university full time as I would not have been able to get any experience with what I am studying at uni.

Make sure you organise your time as it is difficult to balance both full time work and uni together. Seek help from your colleagues, even when they are simple questions. Do not be afraid to ask for help!
