My role involves moving placements around the business every four months for three years. This covers a number of different ares within Project Management and within each role aim to complete a number of compentencies to show my development such as initiative, problem solving, self-confidence.
I have learnt a number of new skills, particularly technical ones -such as effective planning using new software such as P6 and MSP. I have also developed existing ones such as time management and self management
I enjoy experiencing the number of different areas within the business and being given this opportunity with the learning programme. I feel it still requires further development but it is much better than starting a new role in a business where there will be mimimum exposure and understanding of the interrelating functions.
I do feel valued by my employers who have been supportive throughout, and also by the placement managers who value the support we provide during our short placements. I do however, feel that within the project function there is little value and that we are considered statistics as opposed to valued employees.
I would consider this area to require further attention. The structure and organisation is confusing and creates issues whith which function is the responsible manager. It would be beneficial to create fully integrated processes to avoid future problems.
I receive plenty of support from my training provider.
I receive plenty of support from my employer. My employer has consistently been good with communication and help wherever possible.
I think the salary is very good for a trainee scheme, however the increment system based on performance is too subjective and can lead to the salaries being unfair throughout and at the end.
There are many opportunites outside of work.
Yes
BAE Systems produces a range of products with a large number of learning opportunities. It provides opportunities to progress and move roles to find one that suits abilities and challenges. Like any other business, the schemes are in need of review but overall it is a good start.
When applying to BAE Systems be prepared for changes within the schemes as an awful lot can change in 3 years but this is the typical of any business undertaking a number of changes to improve. Enjoy the opportunities available and make the most of your placements.
