Having previously completed a Degree in Environmental Conservation I was looking for jobs that sounded interesting and I saw a role available within Highway Licencing. After some time, I moved into an environmental position at a District Council but by that stage I had decided that my heart was set on a career in Highways. I returned to Highways working within Network Management before being offered a Civil Engineering Degree Apprenticeship in the Highway Design Team. I am now 3 years into a BEng in Civil Engineering, and I can’t imagine working in any other field. I love the balance of office and site, as every day is different, and the days go so quickly.
Recently I was astounded when I won the ICE East Midlands Civil Engineering Achiever of the Year Award as well as well as receiving a Deans Award for academic achievement at University. This has been an achievement due to the amazing support I have received from Via East Midlands at the start of my civil engineering career. While I have chosen to work within Highways, there are so many other options available at Via.
