Level 3 Apprenticeship

1. What made you decide to come to IBM as a school leaver?

I was unsure whether to go to university or a degree apprenticeship and felt as though I needed more time to make this decision. I came across the 12 month Futures Gap Year Internship at IBM and thought it would be the ideal opportunity to get insight into what working for a large company would be like and hopefully finalise my decision with University or Apprenticeship!

2. What hints or tips would you pass to those who are interested in applying to IBM as a school leaver?

Show your determination and passion to learn! If they mention something you don’t know how to do, don’t be scared, show you are willing and want to learn. This attitude will get you far and will mean your knowledge is always growing (and a bonus…IBM love it!)

3. What’s the best thing about your current role?

Learning practically and on the job from people who have had years in the industry and are experts in their field. This exposure allows me to expand my knowledge through real-life situations.

4. What support was available to you when starting at IBM?

I had a knowledge transfer handover with the intern I was taking over from. This made me more confident in starting my role as I knew I had a “buddy” with me in the beginning. IBM were also very engaging with the interns and provided us with so many communities to join and expand our network!

5. What’s the best thing about being at IBM?

Countless opportunities and everyone here wants to help! It is such a great work environment where you will never be left in the dark- there is always someone to speak to.
