Where and what did you study?

Spalding Grammar School – A levels, Chemistry, Biology and History

What work experience did you have before joining Bakkavor?

Before joining Bakkavor I mainly worked in retail, however, when I was at secondary school I did work experience at Bakkavor in Sutton Bridge with the Technical Department.

What attracted you to Bakkavor? Were you aware of the business before?

The main thing that attracted me to Bakkavor was being able to learn while gaining experience working in a fast paced company. I was aware of Bakkavor before as my mum works for the company.

Can you talk us through what you did or are doing on the apprentice programme?

I am going to be studying my CIPD qualification. Currently I work within a very helpful and open team to provide HR Support.

What were the highlights?

My highlights so far have been meeting the people that I work with and really being able to grow my confidence.

What’s your current role? What are you responsible for? What do you do day to day?

As HR Apprentice my day to day role can differ. My typical day would mainly be taken up by monitoring absence throughout the factories on site. I am also responsible for coordinating weekly recruitment and the Star Awards on site.

What is the best thing about working for Bakkavor?

There is a lot of opportunity within Bakkavor to progress in your career, and the people that work within Bakkavor are very open to helping you develop as a person as well as in your career.

What’s it like in your team?

The team that I work with is great! Everyone is willing to help you and they are all very open to questions, which you may think are silly or have a lot of when you first start. We all get along really well and help each other to achieve the best end result possible.

How would you describe the Bakkavor culture as a whole?

Very open and approachable. People within Bakkavor are very willing to go above and beyond what their role is on paper and all work with an open mind.

What have you done that you are most proud of in your time so far?

I think that I am most proud of how my confidence has grown so far on this course.

Is there any advice you would give to someone thinking about applying for the Bakkavor Apprentice programme?

If you are applying for an Apprenticeship focused on an area that you are passionate and interested in learning more about and building a career in then Bakkavor is a great place to do that! Be yourself and come with an open mind as to what you could achieve.
