  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a HGV technician, my role involves maintaining and repairing trucks and lorries used for transporting goods. On a day-to-day basis, I am responsible for inspecting vehicles, identifying mechanical issues, performing routine maintenance such as oil changes, filter changes, changing brake pads, and repairing any faulty parts. I also use diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot problems, replace worn-out components, and ensure that the vehicles are safe and in working condition. I also help prepare vehicles for MOT by doing a pre-MOT inspection and carrying out any repairs on faults found. Additionally, I need to keep detailed records of maintenance and repairs, order parts, and communicate with the rental team and my workshop foreman. Housekeeping and stock checks are also an important part of my day to day.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • As an HGV technician apprentice, I would enjoy the programme a lot because it offers hands-on experience and the opportunity to learn valuable skills in maintaining and repairing heavy goods vehicles. Being able to work alongside experienced technicians, gaining practical knowledge, and seeing the direct impact of my work would make the apprenticeship both enjoyable and rewarding. It's a great way to kickstart a career in the automotive industry. I also love learning how to work on all the different vehicles Enterprise has to offer! Rather than being stuck with the knowledge of only one vehicle in comparison to main dealer.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I really enjoy the programme! It's well-organized and structured, which helps me learn and develop my skills effectively. The combination of hands-on experience and classroom learning makes it a comprehensive and rewarding experience. I appreciate the guidance from experienced mentors and trainers that support me throughout the apprenticeship. Enterprise provide the upmost priority experience for apprentices, for example my manager ensures I get work loaded onto me that will be constantly teaching me, rather than just spinning filters and changing pads. I get a lot of support from other technicians, my manager, area manager and workshop foreman. Everyone is more than helpful and always go above and beyond to help me out! In terms of organisation and structure, our college block dates are revealed to us 5 at a time which is a 10 month period (every 2 months inbetween each college block) which is more than enough notice in case I’d need to book a holiday or make any plans. They ask personally if I require accommodation months in advance & ask if I’d like to come down a day before training or on the day as everyone has different preferences. I will always know the dates of my college blocks and where I’m at with my apprenticeship as my manager Nathan sits me down once a month to check my progress and see where we’re at and where to improve.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there are some extra-curricular activities to get involved in at my workplace! We have occasional social events like team lunches, after-work gatherings, and even team-building activities. For Ramadan, my manager ensured to set up a breaking fast event at a restaurant, which shows the companies values in terms of being highly respectful to people of all backgrounds and religions. These events help us bond as a team and create a more enjoyable work environment. While we don't have specific sports teams, we do participate in charity events and community initiatives together. Additionally, there are occasional professional networking events or training sessions that allow us to expand our professional connections and knowledge within the business such as seminars via teams or actual venues. It's nice to have a mix of social, charitable, and professional activities to engage in outside of our regular work tasks.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Enterprise Mobility to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Without a doubt the best company I’ve worked for & I’ve worked here two years prior to starting the apprenticeship. The atmosphere and camaraderie between colleagues in unmatched. The way the business is structured and set up really allows everyone to work as a team efficiently. The other thing I love about working at Enterprise is the employee appreciation, for example every employee received a Christmas Hamper filled with wine, chocolate, biscuits and goodies on behalf of the company and it’s not the first time they’ve done something like that, all year round you’ll receive something in the post, even a happy birthday postcard every year signed by a company director! Also the respect and diversity within the company is incomparable to anywhere else I’ve worked before, any religious holiday that comes around there will be an email sent out to all employees explaining to everyone the reason behind the religious holiday and more information regarding it. 10/10 best company I’ve worked for

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Enterprise Mobility?
  • Top tip number one is networking! Make sure you socialise with everyone and anyone! It’s amazing how far a conversation will get you in this company, making friends in every corner will come in handy, scratch their back and they’ll scratch yours :)
