  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day-to-day basis, I work my aligned customers to grow their accounts via strategic activities. I am responsible for ensuring that customers understand the licences they have brought from Softcat, and are able to effectively use them and maximise on their investment.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt plenty of new skills throughout the apprenticeship and built on my Excel skills. I would say that previously my Excel knowledge was limited, and now I have more knowledge around how to use it and have learnt new skills around Power Query. Another useful technique I have picked up is how to tailor my data for specific audiences depending on their role and if they are technical or non-technical.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the programme because it takes time to build up new concepts which makes it more management. I also have regular cadence with my PDE, and she's always happy to jump on ad-hoc calls if I have any queries.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I would say that the programme is structured very well. The only suggestion I would make is to have a session at the start of the course around the portfolio and the endpoint assessment. This would make it easier to understand what is expected for the end of the course and would not feel as rushed.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Softcat have been absolutely brilliant in terms of support and I don't think there's more they could have done. My manager was very supportive of me doing the course and from the beginning has allowed me to block out a day in my calendar to focus on my learning. I've also had support from the L&D team at Softcat who have always encouraged conversations around how I'm finding the course.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My PDE from Corndel has been amazing in providing support. She has ensured we have regular contact, and is also only a Teams message or email away when I am struggling. She has also given me invaluable advice on data I'm working on outside of the apprenticeship.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • So far so good! Although I have not yet completed the qualification, it has already opened new doors for me within my role. Since starting, my manager has allowed me to hone in on the new skills learned, and to build dashboards that benefit our department.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are extra-curricular activities in abundance to get stuck in with at Softcat! From different communities you can join to meet with likeminded people, to social activities you can do to bond with your team or the wider office, there's always something going on.
