  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a DevOps engineer, my responsibilities are to assist with other teams within the Sage Network Platform and help them with their needs. This can be but limited to managing pipelines, creating code or working on testing. DevOps is a structure that requires a flexible and open mindset.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills. Growing in confidence and knowledge, but also knowing how to work more as part of a team and become more in tune with technology. I have gained skills in new technologies that I had used previoulsy and I will continue to grow at Sage.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I high extent. The learning can be very challenging and stressful but the programme gives me everything I need, to be successful.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is very oganised but there are times where resources and people can become unavailable. An example would be working as part of a team of two people and being the only DevOps team in Sage UK, it can be hard for me and my manager to work together.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • In terms of my manager, he is always available and I can ask him questions whenever he is free and he will always help. In terms of the employer, there is always support and people I can go to. There is no shortage of support at Sage.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The max amount possible. QA Apprenticeships have given me all the resources that I need in order to pass my course and become a successful DevOps engineer. I believe their training provided has given me all the knowledge I need to become sucessful.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It gives me a lot of knowledge that I need in order to complete certain tasks within my role at Sage. Of course, there is a lot of times where the technology we use at Sage differs to what I have trained in, but all skills are transferable.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes. There are many events that we have at Sage that help us become involved with the company. There have been IT events for AWS and networking events that have been held in our office.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The company is very organised and set in their goals. I believe a person that wants stability and commitment, should pick Sage. It has a great work ethic, healthy work-life balance and many fantastic colleagues.

  • Be confident and yourself!
