  • My role within the economics team is primarily to support the development of the economic case (and sometimes strategic case) for HM Treasury Green Book compliant business cases. This involves analysing the costs and benefits associated with an intervention (e.g., grant funding) to assess it's value for money.

  • The subject is interesting and engaging, it's a privellege to be doing work that I enjoy whilst also knowing that I can support decision making which will have a real positive impact on society and people's lives.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Government Economic Service?
  • Don't be discouraged if you haven't previously studied economics. An applicant who is passionate about the social purpose behind working in the civil service and always approaches issues with a willingness to learn will find people are happy to support you. The knowledge and skills come with time.
