  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day-to-day basis, I have to assist on different projects that need design work to be contributed. This would revolve around the design process, first finding sources of inspiration, then designing my own work and making changes accordingly.

  • I have grown my general design skills; my knowledge in the field has certainly increased as a result of the apprenticeship. In addition, my corporate communication skills have also grown, leading me to be a more holistically skilled worker.

  • The programme has a good structure and any updates or differences to this structure have been clearly communicated. The employer understands which days I have been given to attend my university and the hours of training I have to do when on the job. I know that if I have any questions about the structure of the programme that there are multiple people I can enquire with.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Within the programme, I have received plenty of support from my managers and members from the team from which I operate. They all collectively value my progress and have helped me in my development as a designer and an employee in the workplace. I receive constructive feedback that helps me to develop my work, and this is expressed in a positive manner. My managers, both of which I have been amazing, have always been there to listen and provide the needed support. The wider company also provide me with support.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive plenty of support from my training provider. They have always supported me with my projects and are open to any questions that I ask. If I am unsure about my work, they will help to guide me through the process and provide me with positive, constructive feedback that significantly aids my progress and development.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification certainly helps me to perform better in my role. I learn a range of different methods in the course which can be applied to projects I am working on. The qualification has also provided me with a solid understanding on industry standard programmes.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is an abundance of extra-curricular activities to get involved in at my work. This includes different networks within the business that champion inclusion/provide insight into the lives of different people. There are also ample events that you can attend to network and grow your scope of connections.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend a friend to join Mace due to a range of factors. There is a strong social value embedded into the business and sustainable ideas are implemented into the way we perform, both sustainable in the sense of the environment and ways of working. Employees are willing to help each other. We develop as a group. We are free to grow and develop.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mace?
  • I would say that you should explain why you embody the values we have at the company. Why and how you champion social value and why you think long-term thinking is beneficial. Why you think the ambitious heart of the company aligns to your own goals and pursuits.
