  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Trainee Auditor @ BDO LLP My Daily Tasks include going to clients and performing audits around the country. As well as this i am based in an office based environment and have the opportunity to wokr from home every now and again. My daily interactions are varied because of my wide client base and on top of this working with a range of employees helps me interact with a number of people on a daily basis. My responsibilities generally lie within auditing the balance sheets of a variety of companies on a daily basis.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Before starting to study the CFAB with BDO i had no idea about accounting but can now confidently audit the balance sheet of a company. We have training provided to us on an irregular basis by BPP Education.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The role is vary varried with some good weeks and some bad weeks, this is determined by how many people you are working with as this reflects the work load, some weeks its just too much - however managers tend to be understanding and accommodating in respect of this. The team changes on a weekly basis but i'd say im a personable member of the organisation so this doesnt tend to be an issue for me. I do enjoy the work overall but sometimes the travel becomes tedious - again it depends which client im working on and how long it takes to get there etc.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BDO?
  • This is dependent on who you are working for - generally managers praise you for good work and client interaction however from time to time it feels as if the managers are only interact with junior members to criticise work rather than compliment work.... this tends to be an irregularity

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The start of the programme is well organised with an initial training course but the exam timetable that has been set seems like it isnt logical and that there is no real reason for when exams have been set. I'd much prefer to study more in the run up to christmas rather than throughout the summer. BPP also tend to be a bit disorganised. However my day to day work rather than study tends to be highly organised.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • BPP are relatively average - if there's an issue responses tend to be very general and sometimes state the obvious. Personally i dont rate the training provider - they do the job but i wouldnt say their services are anything better than 'adequate'

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My direct manager is excellent and she always seeks to help me with any issues that i have. This goes for the majority of the organisers in my office as well. The Resourcing manager is also particularly helpful in trying to get me on jobs that are close to home etc.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Salary is fine but with the costs of travel (car insurance etc.) which is essential for this line of work a vast proportion of my monthly wage is spent on travelling to work. however if i didnt spend this money to get tp work i wouldnt be earining anything at all

  • Plenty of social activities are avaliable for all levels of staff

    9/10
