  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role involves working with lots of Excel spreadsheets, inputting passenger data and interpreting of the results. We produce a weekly pack of how the company is doing on bookings vs forecast/prior years which is sent out to senior business staff and used for many purposes. We also create several files of booked vs departed passengers that are used by colleagues in other accounting departments to calculate their forecasts/budgets for the coming months.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I had no accounting experience prior to starting at TUI and have been able to learn a lot in the 6 months I have been here already. Everyone is so helpful and always willing to answer all questions you might have. You get exposure to lots of different areas of the business which allows you to broaden your knowledge

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have really enjoyed my programme so far; everyone is so friendly and helpful. I have been able to get involved in so many different tasks and projects and have developed to the point where I am able to set up new projects/Excel files independently. I have been able to undertake training in other areas as well to expand my knowledge.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The TUI side of the programme is very well organised and we are kept updated with what is happening. The First Intuition side of the programme isn't as good. They are very slow to reply to emails and can seem quite unorganised. They forgot to register 2 of us onto the programme until the day before our first course started so we didn't get the link for the online study session until 6pm the evening before it began. We were also meant to do a load of prep work and we hadn't even received the course materials yet.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • TUI are very supportive and will offer help if needed. There are a number of courses that have been run on basic things like Excel formulas as well as how to use the internal systems. You are given plenty of time off to complete the study requirements and my line manager is always checking in to make sure that I don't have too much going on. Her policy is that my exams come first.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support from First Intuition is okay but they can be very slow at responding to emails and disorganised with booking you onto courses etc. I have been booked onto a couple of courses for 6 months earlier than I was meant to be and that I wasn't even eligible to do yet as I hadn't finished the current level.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification will be invaluable for allowing me to work at a management accountant within any company. It is not company specific but the majority of my tasks are related to the skills I have learnt/will learn as part of my qualification. I am then able to apply these skills to the company specific things I need to do/know.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a huge number of employee networks that you can join and they normally run events/virtual meetings/etc. throughout the year. Within finance, there are a number of events throughout the year, both within teams and across the wider finance team.
