  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Based in a room aged 15 months to 2 years. Engaging, involving and initiating activities to stimulate and encourage the children's development. Provide and promote a safe and nurturing environment for the children. As well as participate and be present, at meal times, sleep times and all throughout the day in the room with the children. Putting their needs and desires first.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have built on the following skills: Team building Communication Confidence Compassion Care Drive Determination I have learnt/gained new skills and tools which I feel are very important within my job role such as, the ability to recognise and notice small details such as a change in a child's behaviour or mood.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy the programme and all aspects of it. I do find it somewhat difficult sometimes to balance my assignment work load alongside my personal life and commitments. However, I am trying to get better on that and improve that as soon as possible in order to get the most out of the programme.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very well structed and organised, I receive regular updates and communication from my assessor. I am comfortable and confident to reach out to my assessor with any concerns or questions. I am sent emails from my training provider in regards to webinars that I am required to sign up to and participate in.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive support from my provider when I feel necessary. For example advice on guidance on what to do regarding a child within the setting. I am able to go to staff (the employer) with concerns or questions on my apprenticeship and my role within the setting gain insight into other job roles and responsibilities within the nursery such as SEN qualified and level 3 qualified.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a great amount of support from my training provider in terms of working to my qualification. My assessor is in constant communication with me via either email or message, whichever is seen as suitable and professional in regards to the subject matter. I am always contacted with information regarding webinars, assignments, zoom meetings and on site visits and observations.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel as though the webinars and feedback I receive are really useful and helpful. I am able to apply it within my practise/role and it has helped me to become a lot more confident and comfortable within my role. I feel myself picking up and learning new things as though they are a second nature.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are regular staff meetings, and a recent Christmas work event/ meal that was hosted within the setting. As well as the staff do socialise outside of the setting in their own free time. Whether that be in bigger or smaller groups.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Sandhills Day Nursery to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The staff, the atmosphere of the setting is overall inviting and welcoming. The staff are friendly, reliable, selfless and work together as a team. They show alot of compassion, drive, creativity and passion within the setting and towards the children. It has been a difficult transition for me with no previous experience working with children, yet the staff have made it easier due to their reassurance and advice and guidance.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Sandhills Day Nursery?
  • Don't be afraid to ask questions Show enthusiasm and interest It's okay to not have experience with children as long as you have a selfless and positive attitude. Creativity and passion are key within this job role (in my opinion)
