  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I make sure the children are looked after following polices, I make sure I know the signs of abuse and how to report this. I ensure I follow the day to day routine and am comfortable and familiar with these including meal times, nap times and understand and keep up to date with all polices.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt lots including how to deal with different behaviours and how children self regulate and learning when to intervene when they may need support I understand what signs of SEN and delays are and when to act in accordance of polices. I have learnt multiple ways snapshots can be done.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love what I do for a job. I have always loved working with children and love every aspect. I have a passion for making sure the children are happy and safe. I love working at Sandhills and hope to continue working there to complete my level 3 and after it is completed.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My managers are amazing and completely supportive, they always give us time out for coursework and help us with anything we may need. They send us polices we may need. My tutor has been very helpful and is happy to help at any point of the day. She is always happy to help find us resources to use and provides us with these. She is always happy to extend a deadline if needed.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Our employer is extremely supportive. They are so helpful with providing us with the time and resources such as policed needed to complete the coursework that has been set. They are always there if we need a chat or comfort. They are so supportive and encouraging and always there when needed.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support given from my training provider has been outstanding. She has always gone above and beyond to provide me with resources and support. She is always happy to extend a deadline if needed. She will turn things into discussions instead of written if that helps the student learn better.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I now understand a lot more about special educational needs and developmental delays therefore I am more aware for them. I understand how to help children self regulate more. I understand about all the different laws and legislations now I can understand these and put them into practice including British values.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have monthly staff meetings where we discuss all our concerns and take part in team building activities. We discuss everything that has happened throughout the month and what we would like to see happen. We also have extra training available after work some months this really helps increase my knowledge.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The staff have always made me feel wanted and welcome. They are always there and offer support. The management offers so much support and understanding. The children are amazing and I am so proud I get to be part of there lives. Everyone who works there is fantastic and I am proud to work there.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Sandhills Day Nursery?
  • Make sure you have self confidence it will come in time everyone is really supportive and understanding. Read up on different sen before you start so you have a basic knowledge on these topics. If they provide you with an option for extra training take it, everything helps for the job and towards coursework.
