  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work alongside experienced project managers to gain experience within my role. I have been placed in the defence sector so I work on big projects which require a security clearance. Currently, my role is based with doing a lot of schedule maintenance as well as leading on my own smaller project which is intense but interesting.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • i find my programme interesting, i think the sector is difficult to come into when I had no prior background so its difficult learning a new role in a sector I had no interest/knowelege in. in saying this in the short amount of time I've been there I have exceeded my own expectations.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • sadly this is where it declines, the structure of this programme isn't great, they cram everything into a condensed and short amount of time meaning there is even more pressure, it means we are working overtime to ensure that we are completing the off the job training that is required.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • my employer is supportive and i have a great team around me who are very supportive in making sure I have the relevant work in order to complete my apprenticeship. it hasn't been an easy ride so I give commendation to the people that have been there to support me an follow apprentices during it.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • the training provider has different areas, the lecturer I could not fault he is knowledgable, engaging and has a great way of teaching, the DLC however is negative, and doesn't support us in the way we require, we have gone to them in a time of need before our exam and their attitude was appalling.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • the trainig provider helps me get my APM PMQ this will help loads as it is a well seen qualification in the project management world and shows people the competency I have to complete the role as I have the correct knowledge surrounding the job I'm required to do.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • there are plenty of options to get involved in other activities outside the work area. we as a team quite often go on socials to get out of the work building and gain more trusting and telling relationships, I believe in doing this it has really benefitted my relationship with my team.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BT to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • there are downsides to my apprenticeship but that is nothing to do with BT and all to do with the provider. the company perks you get are amazing and they support you with any issues you may have, they are a great company to work for and I feel safe which is important.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • when applying remember the BT values, personal, simple and brilliant as you'll get asked lots of questions about them. make sure to be yourself and bring out all your best qualities, the interviews are fun and engaging so my best advice is to just enjoy yourself and be true to who you are.
