  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis you get the opportunity to do the same things as a travel agent does and i have never felt lower than anyone. I take our appointments, take walk in bookings, add on insurance (due to being under 18 i do have to have someone with me whilst i do this. On my apprenticeship days i have 6 hour shift where you can use the office space and this is when you complete any course work which can contain things like Cruise questions which you re-search, training ect you will also get the chance to speak to your apprentice coach who's job it is to make sure you are doing okay within your role. Working in customer service on a daily is such a learning point as you can serve so many different customer's and so many different situations.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt so much between now and when i started, you learn something new everyday because you come across so many different situations. I have learnt how to change people's holiday's upon request, what to do if the holiday is cancelled, you can learn so much with working within customer's service as everyone's customer's needs can be different. You start with learning how to answer the phones and eventually get to book holiday's for our customer's.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My apprenticeship is perfect for what i wanted to do i went to college and i didn't like it but as soon as i started this job i could see that this is what i would love doing. All the staff are so helpful and supportive even when you may ask questions all the time but it's all apart of learning.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think the programme is really well organised ect.... your manager will plan in my hours in advance so i will know when i am on my apprentice hours and i can request to do them on certain dates if i have a call organised ect. My apprentice coach is also really helpful and if i ever need any extra help she will organise a call for us to chat about any relevant issues

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I find that my employer is really supportive and will help in any way that she can and as said she is really helpful in making sure that my hours every week for my apprenticeship work is all complete. I also have found that our deputy and assistance managers are really supportive too with helping me on the shop floor to supporting me with any apprentice work that they can. They are also really supportive with selling insurance as i cannot do this on my own due to being under 18 i need to have one of my colleagues sat with me but they are really good about this and always there to help.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I find that our training provider is brilliant they are always quick to respond if there is any issues that i have they have always helped so quickly. They are also really good at customising the way of learning to you, so i had to do an information page on Portugal and Spain so as i'm very creative i found the best way for me to do this was on a power-point presentation so i was able to do this. My end goal is to do cabin-crew and they are so supportive in helping me get to this point.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • i feel that i am able to perform better in my role as a travel agent through completing my qualification as i learn so much as my qualification opens me up to so many new countries and all the different areas and we are able to do so much research for these things. I have found it has really helped when coming to sell cruise holidays as you do research on all the different cruise lines and ships to travel on within these with the sizes and tonnage ect...

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There isn't any sport activities or anything i get involved in but i do fine it is good as with being an apprentice you get to take part in an apprentice day every couple of months so this involves of for example we last went to Bristol Airport for the day where all the apprentices in my region all came and we learnt some different things about what is going to be changing in the Airport and new updates.

  • 9a. Would you recommend TUI UK & Ireland to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have just found they have been so helpful with everything and when first starting i was scared of being seen as just the apprentice but i have found they treat you the same and they are always happy to help you learn something new and just to be not afraid to ask any questions-they will always be happy to help-this job is so much more than you could ever imagine, you learn something new everyday between customer service and holiday changes.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to TUI UK & Ireland?
  • you need to be open to learning and understand that it is so much more than booking a holiday that goes into it. I have found that having a passion for wanting to help customers achieve their dream holidays is always a great pace to realise that this type of apprenticeship may be for you.
