  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role in CapGemini is a software developer using a Java based tool. My day-to-day jobs consist of creating design documents for a new feature or add-on, developing this feature and then testing it. These are the 3 typical roles of a software developer.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since I started the company I have been provided with a lot of training and I have learnt a lot of new skills. I can now use Java, SQL, HTML5 and many other pieces of software that I had never used until I joined the company.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the Apprenticeship Programme as it provides a mixture of work and education. I work a standard 9-5 week, learning new skills and picking up a salary like anyone else but then I the side I am given the opportunity to achieve a level 4 apprenticeship and then afterwards a full honours degree, so it really gives the best of both worlds.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Capgemini?
  • Capgemini really likes to make all of their employees feel important and that is certainly the case for me. I not only feel like an important part of my team but I also feel like I'm an important part of the company as a whole. I recently was rewarded with a promotion and this really made me feel like Capgemini has a high opinion of me.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well organised and all apprentices have an assessor to help them complete their apprenticeship. The apprenticeship is well spaced out across two years and it gives apprentices everything they need to achieve their level 4 diploma.

  • Our training provider is always there for us when we need any help or support. We have regular meetings every 6 weeks to review our work, allocate new work and just for general support. We can also email our provider at any time to ask any questions we require help with.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive support from Capgemini at every level. My colleagues have helped me learn a lot with great advice, my team leader is always there to support me whenever I need anything and the high level managers are also always available for any assistance. I also have my own reviewer who always supports me and pushes me to my limit.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary I started on in the company was very generous and I was earning more than anyone else that I knew. Capgemini are very good with salary and they will regularly review your pay to see if your salary corresponds to the level of work you are doing. For example, I have worked very hard for the last 6 months and this was recognised and I was rewarded with a very large pay rise.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are lots of opportunities to get involved with other activities outside of work. There are regular emails that go around the offices to see who is interested in partaking in sports such as football and badminton. Individual teams also arrange nights out such as going to a quiz or for lunch, which really helps a team to bond.

  • 9. Would you recommend Capgemini to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because they are a very good employer who makes sure that all of their employees are happy and well looked after. They provided a very reasonable salary as well as spending huge amounts of money to keep their employees trained in the latest technologies.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?
  • When applying for Capgemini I would advise anyone to be themselves, be confident, be honest but most importantly ask lots of questions! Capgemini really encourages people to ask questions and get the answers that they require. When someone joins a new company or are about to join a new company there are hundreds of questions flowing through their mind and Capgemini understands this and wants to provide as many answers as possible so ask questions!
