  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I lead the team to manage the receiving of stock in a safe and efficient way. Getting the stock booked in and on the shelf ready for our customers in a timely manner. Stock control of damages, theft etc. Location management and then the selling of these goods with great customer service. I take control of health and safety and have a number of KPI's to hit. I aim to lead the team with humility, passions and fun to delivery great results.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • This program has helped me to learn new skills, refresh and develop existing skills such as using coaching frame works like the grow modal. I learned more about marketing strategy's which I didn't know before. I have learnt various new modals which I have used and have come in useful in my current role.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have found the program enjoyable with my lifetime coach being very helpful and understanding. It has be great to be able to step away form some of the day to day and to focus on myself and my learning to hone my leadership skills and learn new skills. Although challenging at times.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Overall I think it's been very well organised, with clear modules to focus on with regards to specific subject matter. I think the improvements they made with the change of platforms was a real positive as this made the learning and understanding where I was in the program much easier.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The company very much aims to support people on these programs and it is made clear that at store level we must be given the time to complete the program and take some time out of the day to day to focus on our learning. This can be a real challenge both for the store, management and the learner as we are always so busy there is always jobs that need doing.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Sue my trainer has always been very supportive and helpful. Encouraging me, explaining things in a way that helped me to understand and always there if I needed help and or that support to answer a particular question or to steer me in the right direction, regular meetings and communication.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think this program and qualification has helped me to be better at my role as it has stretched my thinking and helped me to hone and develop my skills. Giving me different perspectives and different ways of working and thinking about problems to find better solutions. this has broadened my perspective.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Not so much social activities as I live a little far out from work to get involved in out of work things as I have my own family to look after etc. We do have various things to help with networking, teams groups, meetings and yammer all help to expanded knowledge and connections.

  • 9a. Would you recommend B&Q to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • B&Q as a whole I believe does care about the individuals who work for them, as much as any large company can. They do ask for your opinions and they do listen. The company has good pay and good benefits, great pension scheme, holidays and lot's of other little benefits like discounts etc. good opportunity if you want to progress.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to B&Q?
  • You need to be hard working, open minded and want to work in a busy that wants to move with the times and encourages Diversity and inclusion. If you come with a will and desire to be at you best and to learn get involved and grow as a person and possible a leader you will do well.
