  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I manage a service workshop of + 20 individuals of various roles. This involves general work planning, people and business management, communication with customers and implementing business strategy etc

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt alot about managing people. I have also developed my financial acumen and developing business cases.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy some modules of the course, for someone taking this on as an additional task in a role that is not specifically an apprenticeship, it is very difficult to priorities this over "proper work" when there are crisis or things to do at work.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is a structured well although a little rigid through QA. I think it would be great if one's sole role is to develop as an apprentice. As an add on piece of work it is difficult, and deadlines do not tie in with other work commitments.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I am able to take as much time as needed (within reason) to complete my work. Due to adverse circumstances my team is a little depleted so when covering other work it is hard to justify the academic work when responsible for a department.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support is good with access to books, tutors (via email) and the courses. Again, can be a little rigid only being able to attend a set course at a set time when other work and customer/supplier meetings are unable to be moved.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Not everything is relevant on the face of it, however i find myself thinking back to earlier learning when doing different job related activities. As time goes on i am sure i will be able to practice more of this.

    8/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • DE & I Lead for Wellingborough site.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Cummins to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I started in 2010 as an apprentice, since I have had many opportunities and think it is a great place to work and grow your career. I have progressed through numerous roles and had opportunities to work and learn abroad and at our other sites.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cummins?
  • Be honest, be yourself and don't listen to the neigh sayers once you're in. Cummins is quite a wide world, if you see an area you like the look of, let someone know and work towards that rather than immediately jumping ship.
