  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Managing the nursery staff, health and safety of the building. Working out the staffing and registers for the nursery. Training new staff. Safeguarding the children and making sure they have a safe and nurturing environment. Communicating with the parents and answering any queries they may have, including visitors of the nursery too.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have a level 5 in leadership and management, but have had to do my level 3 to be included in children’s ratios. The course has been useful to be able to showcase my current knowledge and display it in my work. Being able to research has also helped.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do find it sometimes a little repetitive, especially when I know the information already and I don’t have to do much research behind it. It would be useful for someone who doesn’t have a great amount of knowledge, although I do think it’s still quite time consuming.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I do find that it is sometimes a little confusing. It took me a while to grasp what I needed to do for each of the pieces of work. My tutor has been really helpful during this and guiding me. I have only been able to do it at this rate because of my current knowledge.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer lets me have time for me to complete my qualification. I am glad that I am able to ask any questions which I may have to my manager. I am able to access lots of different policies and talk about them in my work to show my current practice and procedures.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider makes sure I have the ability to contact my tutor to ask any questions. She does have a number of learners so I do expect a slight delay in response. My tutor contacts me or visits the setting each month so I can have feedback for how I am getting on.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think that I have quite a lot of experience already, but my course is also helping me so I can refresh on information and also share that information with new staff, especially the ones who are completing the same course as me, I am able to support them while they do their work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Our company is very nice and they pay for us to have some work events at festivals to improve friendships and moral. We do have to work 2 events per year for the nursery, where we invite parents and children in on a weekend to improve our partnership with parents.
