  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned to drive a class 2 and a class 1 vehicle. My current role is to deliver appliances and other items to customers. Some customers have installations where I've learned how to install a washing machine/dishwasher. I can also reverse doors on a fridge/freezer and plumb them in. My customer services has improved since starting the job, treating customers like I would my own gran

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It's hard work but it's job satisfaction. Seeing a happy customer makes me smile. On the learning side, I've had very good support from National Logistics Academy. I enjoyed the master classes and got to meet other people doing the same apprenticeship and sharing ideas and experiences

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well organised and you know what you are doing and where you are meant to be well in advance. The reviews after the master classes were helpful, in case I was struggling or wasn't clear on something. I was talked through my EPA and I understand what I need to do for this and I've been sent all the tools I need for it

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager has been the absolute best support I could have asked for. He has been supportive and has always been there if I've needed any study time, answered my questions. Or if he didn't know, he would ask someone who did. I always got good feed back too

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Again, my training provider have answered any questions or found out the answers from who would know if they didn't and always got back to me. My training provider has constantly been in touch every step of the way and have been there if I've needed them by phone or email

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • If it's explained to you at the beginning and during the qualification what is expected of you, then it cannot go wrong. If something isn't quite clear, it's alway explained in a different way to help you understand which makes your performance the best it can be. Hard work has to be put in by yourself too

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • A Christmas party is the only social activity I know of but is too far away for us to travel. I haven't heard of anything else or I'm not included in anything else that has been suggested in the question. However, I do meet up with other employees and we enjoy a coffee together

  • 9a. Would you recommend AO to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I've loved everything about my journey to becoming a HGV1 driver. From the work load to the people I work with. I work with an amazing group of people who I hope to stay in contact with if I have to leave AO. Even the higher managers that come on to site are really polite and friendly

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AO?
  • It's a heavy workload and a demanding job, but with the correct training and support behind you, anyone can do it. Any problems, take it to your manager and I can guarantee they will help you as much as they can. What you get back from AO has meant the world to me as I've always wanted to be a HGV driver
