  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a manufacturing engineering electrical apprentice, my role is to take care of anything electrical on site. This means carrying out maintenance and installation work all around site. All my co-workers are friendly and help me learn.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed a few skills such as fault diagnosis, but maybe not as much as I'd have liked since the beginning of the apprenticeship.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I find the work I carry out is interesting, but it gets frustrating at times as I am doing online learning with no tutors which is self-motivated.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Somewhat organised, but there is room for improvement when it comes to what learning courses to be put on.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • They provide support for whatever I need if asked.

    10/10

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider is helpful, but the online training I am taking isn't as it is all online and there are no tutors to teach or help me out if I'm troubled.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My NVQ qualification helps me reflect on work carried out and retain it easier while the BTEC I am completing isn't as useful.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Not that I have heard of.

    2/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend Tarmac to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • As an apprentice, there are better learning opportunities elsewhere which will give you actual tutoring in a college for your Level 3 instead of having to learn it all independently.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Tarmac?
  • It's a good company to work for if you're not an apprentice, but if you are it may be more effective having your apprenticeship elsewhere.
