  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • working at sse i spend my ususal working day within the power station, carrying out maintenace and doing routine checks. On day to day work I get the opportunity to travel to different power stations and learn new things, work with new people and develop my understanding of the job

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • before becoming an apprentice at sse i felt as though i had some pratical skills, but as i have spent more and more time working, i feel as though my knoweldge and understanding of the hydro stations and how things work mechanically and electrically have really developed over the time .

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme, i will be forever greatful for the opportunites it has provided me with, and how many maazing freinds i have made along the way. i have met lots of new pwoplw and developed many new skills. i have pushed my boundies and stepped out of my comfort zone and i feel as though the programme has helped develop me as a person.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel as though the programme is well structuered and i think it is an amazing opportunity to be able to stufy both mechanical and electrical all at once. this has proved to be a great help to me in developing my understanding and knowledge. i am happy with the system.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I always receive as much support as needed from my empolyer. i feel as though they really care for me and do their best to try help with my every needs. i feel appricated and as though i matter. i couldnt ask for a better employer with a better outlook.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • At college we were provided with lots of help from specific memebers of staff. some members went above and beyond to help get us though the course and provide us with the best opportunites as possible. outside of college our assesor is also great and he has good communication with me.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel as though the qualifications provided to me help in some term of y role, however some not so much. in the long run i understand why we do these courses and what benifits they prove to us. such as helping us understand the workings of 3 phase motors. in other cases it c an help us understand the saftey risks that as presented to us in the working enviroment, such as hydrallics.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • as of right now there are not extra curricular activite that can be completed. however in the past i have been given the opportunity to help with events such as the renewables confrence, this gave me the opportunity to meet the leaders of the company, doing this helped me make a name for myself.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel as though i am treated very fairly, and with respect. i am provided with many opportunites and can see many ways of being able to develop and grow within sse. i feel appriciated and as though my work makes a difference. i am also very well encouraged and supported.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to SSE?
  • Be yourself and if you have any questions dont be afraid to ask themm, if you dont ask you wont get. i feel as though the company may be a shock for some people due to how kind everyone is and overall i just feel as though it is a happy place to work.
