  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am responsible for running daily data feeds which update all our relevant databased including marketing opt ins or opt outs that are sent by our customers. I also create customer marketing selections based on stakeholder job briefs, creating marketing vouchers and proofing the final comms that will go out to customers.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned so much in relation to data and how it works in practice, from the overall interactions with data and how it can influence a decision, to the coding of data queries in Google BigQuery using SQL which is Structured Query language. I have also improved on my analytical ability allowing me to extract more insights from data outputs.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have really enjoyed the whole journey on my apprenticeship, and I can really see the benefits it has provided to me in terms of learning and knowledge retention. It has been great to work alongside my coaches and during the workshops my "class" of other apprentices, whether they are in my business as well, or external.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme has been very well organised, with clear instructions and expectations from before the programme even started. The dashboard used to keep a track record of my work in relation to off the job or OTJ hours and where I also access all my workshop pre-work and further learning has been really integral to a structured approach to my journey.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have received amazing support from Travis Perkins, with all of my managers pushing and encouraging me to get as much as possible from this apprenticeship opportunity; in the form of weekly meetings and ensuring I get more than enough time to dedicate to and focus on my apprenticeship portfolio of work.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have received great support from Multiverse and the coaches/workshop facilitators throughout the programme. They have always made me feel a lot more confident in each catch-up or progress review and this pushes me to keep working as hard as I can to achieve a result I am happy with.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have no doubt that this qualification has helped me perform in my role, full stop. In fact, without this apprenticeship I wouldn't even have been given the opportunity to take the analyst role I am in now. As such, the apprenticeship qualification has been absolutely integral to my improvement and development in relation to my role - especially when it comes to SQL, as that forms a massive part of my role and it is covered really well in the programme.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there is a weekly newsletter which often has quick messages about what's going on in the business and I have joined in a few out-of-hours events with my teams in relation to this. In my team specifically we have had catch-ups in the office (as we're a remote team predominantly) which help to break up the routine and is always welcome.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Travis Perkins Plc to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have worked here for 6 years as of today (May 15th) and it was and has been my first real career. The main reasons for this are the nice working environment and clear culture of progression and exploration with regard to where you want to take your career. I have moved both laterally and up in my years and this would not be possible without the focus on recognition of hard work from the business and the teams I have worked with .

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Travis Perkins Plc?
  • If you're considering a position in TP, but you're not sure if you want to commit, don't be afraid to take the step. There is so much understanding that young people are still developing their careers and everyone I have worked with has wanted to help me with that; from mentoring to giving me advice and reassurance that when (not if) I want to pursue something more in my career - even when it was not a role I had full qualification/experience in - they wanted to help me realise it and it is has encouraged me to keep building and working off that momentum.
