  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I'm a Human Resources Generalist, which is a role within HR which covers a wide (general) scope, involving advising, assisting with HR queries, employee relations, and business strategy. On a day-to-day basis, I manage talent programs within the business, and respond to HR queries and requests from team members.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've really developed my stakeholder management and communication skills since the start of my apprenticeship, as I've gained an understanding of the different communication styles each stakeholder responds best to. I've also gotten much better at problem solving and decision making to help the business with HR matters.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do enjoy the program - it gives me the opportunity to explore different aspects of HR and wider areas of the business, which has given me a much better idea of the things I do and don't enjoy. I've had lots of great opportunities to develop my learning.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure of the program is quite loose for me, as I have floated around different responsibilities dependent on the need of the team, which isn't always inline with what I need for my development. But, the team have a clear idea of how I can assist them, which is helpful.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I received my 20% study entitlement, as well as the offer to get involved with different projects that align with the area of study that I'm doing at that time. However, as I was the only apprentice on this course when I started, it was quite isolating from a collaboration perspective!

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Plenty - my skills coach is exceptional. She discusses my development and what activities might increase my exposure with me so that I have the best possible opportunities to succeed. I receive thorough feedback on my work, helping me to boost it to the highest possible standard, so that I can strive towards my goals.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification covers lots of different HR areas which my team operate in. The content on the course helps me to understand each area of the function and why it's so important, meaning I have the right level of understanding to help and support them with tasks that need additional support.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • The early career community have so many opportunities to collaborate and socialise from a non-work perspective. The early career team work extremely hard to ensure that we can network with one-another, as a crucial part of our development. The best opportunity I've had was going to the lake district for a team development week - it was outstanding.
