  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I worked on a project called project mint. On this, I had the role of a financial crime analyst, I would be required to review businesses that have accounts with our client. I would find out who the owners are, what the business does and review transactions. During this I would look for evidence of financial crime.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I have learnt plenty of new skills. This includes the ability to look into something in detail. Before this project, I would rush into things and miss the finer details. I have also developed existing skills such as my teamwork skills and communication. This is because I had to work with me team, including SMEs and QCs.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really do enjoy the programme. I like the fact that there are 50 other people who do this apprenticeship, as this makes me feel less lonely and gives me friends to relate to. I also enjoy the mix of working as well as university, this helps me attain many skills.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • When we first joined it was a bit messy, our first day we had no one greeting us or welcoming us, we just got out passes and went to get our laptops. No one told us where to sit or what to do so we just had to figure it out for ourselves. Besides that, it has gotten better now.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We recieve a good level of support, I have a career coach who is in contact with the university to ensure that there is no miscommunication. I also have a buddy who I can ask questions to if I require extra help. We can also get support of of lecturers as well as our team lead.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a lot of support, our career coach manages the communication between university and the office. We receive plenty of support from our lecturers and they make us comfortable to share information with them and to come to them when we have a problem or any anxiety or worry.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel it partially does. We are learning about business and cultures of companies as well as finance in university. This helps to give me general knowledge about business and the corporate world. The work I do in uni is not specific to the work I do in work. However, I think this is a good thing as I want to keep my options open for getting into different lines of service.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are plenty of extra curricular activities in work. This includes socials where we get to go out for food and or drink with our teams and service towers. There are also wellbeing activities, this includes Yoga, Zumba, HIIT classes and much more. There are also google chat groups for activities you are interested in e.g. football.

  • 9b. Why?
  • PwC is a great company who I believe genuinely care about their staff. They place a massive focus on wellbeing and making sure that their employees are in a good state of mind and have good mental health. They help me to make achievements without making me burn out in my work.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
