  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role consists of planning for projects through building business cases, proposals and holding workshops with other stakeholders who have the necessary expertise. There is also an element of planning and producing project schedules, resource allocation, communication plans, stakeholder mapping and much more. Once the project in in swing I will often hold meetings to ensure everything is on track and become aware of risks that need to be mitigated or escalated.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed many of my current skills such as time management and organisation through having to manage a project and teams within the project. I have also learnt several new skills through my apprenticeship, an example of this would be stakeholder management. This has allowed me to experience the various levels of interest and understanding different groups can have in a project and how to inform and consult them based on these varying interests. It has also helped me developed soft skills needed to communicate and lead teams.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured and organised. I was able to be placed in a role where I would be given the opportunity to put what I was taught into practice even if I had yet to be assigned me first project. I was also able to reach out to others within the team/organisation through the ERGs available to employees and further my learning.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer. There is always someone to talk to confidentially, if there are personal/external factors that are affecting my ability to perform/complete my apprenticeship then I am able to confide including my line manager, apprenticeship ambassadors and apprenticeship managers. I am also able to gain expert support from the industry through being connected to others who have or previously were in a similar role to me.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I am able to participate in many extra-circulars at work. I am an apprenticeship ambassador, this allows me to meet other apprentices and help them with their journey where need be as well as grown my network.
