  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I'm a warehouse operative meaning I work towards hitting KPI's whilst either picking stock on the LLops or moving pallets around the warehouse using my reach truck. I'm also the teams Fire Marshall, First aider and Mental health first aider on shift. In this role it's my job to make sure everyone is kept safe both physically and mentally.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, during my short time on my HR course I've learnt exactly what a HR job is and the important roles we play in a number of different areas around the business, from marketing to recruitment. I've also looked at how different market factors may affect our goals and how we'd look to improve in those areas to remain competitive.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The course itself is interesting and has taught me new things, the struggle is that all of the video calls and one to ones are allocated to day/twilight hours, as I work the nightshift this means I have to get up when I should be resting to attend these calls as to not fall behind.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme seems to be very well structured with clear timescales on a simple path that will be followed to ensure we learn all the information we need by the end of the course. I find an issue when it comes to getting the extra support I need when asking for help through emails, it can take days and sometimes even weeks to get an answer to my questions.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support I receive varies, some times I'm given the hours I'm required to have to do my "off the job" hours, other times I'm not depending on holidays or sickness on shift. This makes it a real struggle to keep up especially when all of the sessions are targeted towards day/twilights hours. also getting answers from my managers via email takes an awful lot of chasing adding to the stress.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Similar to my previous answer it varies from week to week, sometimes I can receive all the support I need but other times I can be waiting days or weeks for an answer which is stressful when I have deadlines to hit, this is also noticeable when it comes to marking our work and giving us feedback, this can take weeks after the due date.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Currently I'm just a warehouse operative so I can't put my new found skills into practice much as I don't perform the roles of a HR person, I've been given small tasks to do but nothing major, this may change further down the line or once I've completed my course.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have a website called Thrive that allows anyone within the business to try and better themselves, it provides free training course in the way of video call sessions for a variety of different topics such a 'How to build a effective team' and 'How to communicate effectively', I've taken advantage of these and attended a couple so far.
