  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The Configuration Management process involves guiding Configuration Items (CI’s) through each phase of the lifecycle, while maintaining the integrity of the Configuration Management Database (CMDB). The CM role uses the five ITIL disciplines: identification, control, status accounting, verification and auditing to deliver CI’s to environments, reducing risks associated.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since my role I have developed my soft skills such as communication, time management and leadership, through both my role and degree. Furthermore, I have acquired specialist skills with CM tooling and IT service Management with my ITIL certification. Also in my degree skills such as Project Management, Finance, Marketing etc.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My programme has given me the opportunity to gain work experience while completing my degree and portfolio. I have received endless support through both my studies and career development, while enjoying my time at Capgemini, as fun is one of their 7 core values! The Early Emerging Talent community is important at Capgemini. There are regular enjoyable events for apprentices and graduates.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The apprenticeship is well organised and has a clear structure. The degree apprenticeship is 3.5 years. The degree webinars are once a week/ biweekly depending on how many modules, of an evening. The apprentices are allowed study leave days which can be booked as and when is needed, therefore is flexible. And twice a term the students go OnCampus to Aston University in person.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As an apprentice I have received endless support with my degree, my CMDA portfolio and role. The culture at Capgemini encourages an inclusive environment from my team and EET community. I have received support from apprentices who have completed their programme, current apprentices and my team. My workload is manageable, so I can focus on my degree when I need, and still feel supported.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • At Aston, each apprentice has a skills coach, who is there when a student has any issues. Furthermore, the skills coach aids them with their CMDA portfolio, Off the Job training, and any other apprenticeship standards. Likewise with the degree, the skills coach and module leaders always have time for students through webinars and regular 1-2-1s.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Not only has my degree itself helped me perform better at my role through leadership and communication skills, my skills coach has offered support for my role, and ensured I am able to meet the CMDA standards. Through my end of year project, this has combined my skills and knowledge I use within my role and degree, to lead a project.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are regular Capgemini events all year round, providing many opportunities to network and collaborate with various individuals of all levels and roles. Furthermore, the EET community holds their own events for the apprentices and graduates, organised my apprentices themselves including bowling and quiz nights. There are also giving back opportunities, which encourage networking and collaboration.

  • Yes

  • It’s a great opportunity to develop your career while completing your degree. Not only does it provide valuable work experience, potential certifications and training opportunities, but it is also done with a manner that is supportive and enjoyable. Support from both Capgemini and Aston University throughout the entire degree apprenticeship programme.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?
  • The seven core values at Capgemini is very important and is embedded in the culture. Understand what each value means and fully engage and get involved at every stage of the process. Networking is important, with other applicants and those leading the process, and ask questions! Also enjoy the process.
