  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Performing audit procedures on mid-sized firms and charities to ensure validity of financial statement. Includes lots of excel work, travel to different offices, communication with audited entity's senior finance staff . Also contains a large study component in which I sit exams and attend college.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Accounting - as a fresh graduate without accounting knowledge, the programme has developed my financial and accounting understanding. People-facing skills - presented with many difficult scenarios when attending audited entity offices, developed composure. Organisation/Time keeping skill - developed this as audit is fast-paced, deadline-orientated role.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • People are great, vast majority of management is fantastic and understanding. Having a drivers licence definitely helps as there is an expectation that on occasion you are able to travel around an hour from your office.

  • Organised residentials, training programmes, and support network.

  • Management and colleagues very supportive. Professional qualifications team could potentially be more understanding.

  • All materials provided including question banks, and comprehensive video guides covering each topic in depth.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Accounting is definitely a core module in understanding the role. Sitting this early into your programme is crucial as it provides the foundation for the work we perform.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Monthly socials, occasional exercise including 5-a-side.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BDO to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Colleagues are very friendly and supportive. Obtaining ACA whilst gaining experience is also very useful.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BDO?
  • Consider whether studying a qualification at the same time as working a demanding job is definitely for you.
