  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a DevOps Engineer and that involves me using DevOps practices to code and maintain the health of a live platform. This has taught me a lot of coding skills. Alongside this, I also study my course at university that is teaching me coding practices and allowing me to implement them into my job.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my existing technical skills and branched these out to be relevant to the current working industry through my job. My leadership skills have certainly been developed. A new skill that I have developed is how to be a professional consultant, communicating with clients and working on a project to meet deadlines and deliver.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme. Although it requires a willing mindset, it has really been beneficial for me as it has allowed me to go straight in and learn a lot in a very short period of time. My skills are being greatly developed, as are my academic knowledge which is really impactful for my future.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think the programme is very well structured, with the flexibility to take study days and dedicate time during working hours to university work means that it is possible to stay on top of everything. The course is structured well and there is a heavy focus on excelling both in work and university.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is very supportive and understanding for my apprenticeship, my giving me time to focus on university and studies when needed, and relieve pressure when I have deadlines to meet. Capgemini are great at accompanying me as an apprentice, and giving time full scope to maximise my work and my university.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider is very supportive, providing a whole host of training content well in advance for me to study when it fits in with my working schedule. On campus days are hosted with virtual webinars on a weekly basis which really help to deliver the content at a good rate.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification is directly linked to the work that I am doing in my company. The software engineering route gives you exposure to a variety of different skills that are extremely beneficial for this working industry. I feel like I am well equipped to apply myself to situations in the workplace.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are countless amounts of extra-curricular activities to get involved in at my work place. Not only do they host social events for the entire company regularly and office days to interact with people, there is an entire community that is solely dedicated to the apprentices and graduates, and they host events frequently where the juniors get together and socialise.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?
  • The biggest tip would be to be yourself. Capgemini really appreciate honesty and openness with their employees, they like to take in people that they know are dedicated to their future and want to develop. If people applying ensure they remember to be themselves, and share their enthusiasm, Capgemini will really appreciate that.
