  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As part of an award-winning Future Careers team, this position involves leading the development, improvement & implementation of solutions for all of Virgin Media o2’s talent initiatives. Each year, we hire over 400 apprentices, interns and graduates and have circa 700 individuals on programme, with a distribution across a vast range of capabilities. My role centres around providing advice, guidance & management across all our schemes; from induction to post programme completion. Accountable for the provision and continuous improvement of our Future Talent programmes, this managerial post ensures alignment to business priorities through partnerships with a range of stakeholders, as well as the retention of consistently high customer satisfaction and ROI measures.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Good understanding across all HR disciplines, HR legislation and an excellent working knowledge of the organisation’s HR policies and procedures. Sound understanding of HR in their sector and any unique features. Up to date with best practice and emerging thinking – able to use this in their dealings with the business.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have really enjoyed my apprenticeship so far because i have the ability to work and learn and apply skills straight away without having to wait or it all being all theory and no practical. Sessions are engaging and informative whilst being relevant to my work in the moment too

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • it feels well structured with courses published and i always know what i am doing when, when deadlines are and what is expected of me. My course tutors are responsive and i feel like i am able to apply information in real time every week as i continue the course

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer in the way of time to complete work, to be able to apply real time themes and methodologies, my manager is engaged and i can share knowledge with my colleagues who also support me with my apprenticeship venture within Virgin Media

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a lot of support from my training provider in the way of time to hold learner progress reviews, to be able to apply real time themes and methodologies, my coach is engaged and i can share knowledge with my tutors who also support me with my apprenticeship venture within Virgin Media

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • with my apprenticeship venture within Virgin Media, i feel i can apply my HR consultant qualification well, although i am only six months in to the scheme itself but i already see the value and its not something i studied at Uni so i am able to apply it as i work which is great

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have a future careers committee that organise social networking events as well as other topical sessions such as on those i.e. diversity, equity, inclusion, learning and development, so all of these allow apprentices as other future careers people connect and share stories, tips, anecdotes and other best practices

  • Be honest, open and transparent when applying and not afraid to be your true self through the assessment procedures. We hire on potential, not learnt skills or previous qualifications so dont expect experts in anything but with a willing attitude, we can help you propel into your next discipline careerwise
