  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am required to participate in any self development and to perform to the best of my abilities in my designated team. I must spend an appropriate amount of time completing my university assignments and interacting with the relevant colleagues. BT also set tasks for apprentices to complete which help us learn further

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to academically write through university. BT are currently alternating us through rotations, I have already learnt user research for two months, and I am currently on a rotation in content design, these rotations allow us to develop the fundamental skills for these roles, this is to help us get a better understanding of which role we would like to dive deeper into

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the space we are given to develop our skills and complete our assignment. Everyone I have worked with has been very supportive and genuinely helpful if I ever have any questions. I also enjoy how much the company values mental health and encourages us to prioritise this above everything else.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very new to BT and I understand that BT are still understanding what works and what doesn't work, the structure of the programme has changed from the information we have been given at the start but I appreciate that BT are still developing the programme to make sure it suits the needs of the apprentices in terms of uni and work life.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My line manager is very supportive and will always give me help and guidance if there is something I struggle with. For my first assignment I really struggled to get going, my manager but the tools in place which helped me organise and structure my work, enabling me to work through my assignment productively.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Every now and again the lecturers at Manchester Metropolitan University can respond to emails longer than necessary, but we all have study skills coaches who respond very promptly, so if I ever need a response to my emails, I can count on my study skills coach to chase up the relevant people.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My lecturers often give us articles to read for our self learning, this usually coincides with our roles in work and it means I can perform better at my job when I have a deeper understanding/learning to a specific area. However the modules do not always coincide with work which means work and uni can be out of sync

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Before the travel ban, networking events were put in place for all the same year apprentices across all the offices, there was also chances to collaborate with team members who work in different offices and a chance to plan work socials so colleagues could get to know each other better. However, the travel ban has been in place since October 2022 and the apprentices have not had the chance to participate in any of this since.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BT to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because BT are inclusive and diverse, they provide the tools and support for the apprentices to be the best they can be whilst encouraging mental health to be prioritised. The people I have worked with so far have been supportive and genuinely lovely, so far I have felt valued as a colleague at BT

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • To be your authentic self, BT really value people who are themselves and bring a relaxed nature to the working environment, show passion towards your career and BT will see your drive to succeed. Learn how to collaborate and work in a team and if you have any natural leadership skills then you will see this surface during collaboration
