  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role consists of managing and maintaining the hospital at royal Surrey hospital in Guildford. I work with a diverse team, who are skilled in many fields, the day to day role consists off fixing lights and installing lights in wards to unblocking toilets.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I’ve learned how to handle tools and using them in an effective manner. I’ve learned how to use correct PPE before starting the job.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the practical side and working in the hospital I get to learn everything. The environment is stressful however it’s extremely rewarding knowing our efforts are keeping lives and saving them.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I would say it’s organised however there are a lot of pressures, as the colleges have multiple issues which make the learning experience not very pleasant.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I would say I receive the best support, however I wish they could have more time for apprentices as I don’t feel like we are heard enough.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I feel like more work is to be done as I do not get the 1-1 meetings to review what’s going right and wrong. Instead they wait for the matter to reach a point where you feel like quitting.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I believe I need to learn more as the learning is very fast paced. But my qualifications have helped me as I have some knowledge of the basics which sets me above my peers.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are social activities, I wish there could be more as this would create a more positive environment for apprentices.

  • Yes

  • Even though there are multiple issues, I see the opportunity to learn and grow.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CBRE?
  • Ask lots of questions as there were many things I had to find out by myself as an apprentice.
