  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My main tasks include carrying out various Travel, Monthly Billing and Service Level Agreement reporting, auditing expense reports, processing corporate card applications, organizing supplier meetings and assisting internal customers with travel and expense queries. I also get involved in various projects and have even led my own Just Do It Project for expense types.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned many new skills such as useful Excel shortcuts, how to create a Microsoft Form and send responses to a shared mailbox. I have also continued to expand my customer service skills as well as learning to manage supplier relationships. I have also developed project management skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I'm really enjoying my programme at Cummins. I have been given lots of responsibility when it comes to my daily tasks as well as taking on projects of my own. I'm never left feeling like I have nothing to work on, all of my tasks are enjoyable and I have a huge amount of support.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The tasks I am required to complete are clearly highlighted and if I need to meet a certain deadline this is clearly communicated to me so I can remain on track. Weekly team and one to one meetings are held to discuss the tasks I have ongoing/completed and I am never left without work to do.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive huge amounts of support from my manager through weekly one-to-ones and brief daily catch ups where we discuss everything from my tasks, projects and mental and physical wellbeing. Cummins also has an employee assistance programme as well as offering mentors to those who are struggling with mental health. We also are given lots of opportunities for continuous professional development.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I attend college on a weekly basis so am in regular contact with my tutor, we also have weekly one-to-one discussions where we discuss my ongoing and any outstanding tasks. Detailed feedback is provided on all of our work and the course aims for us to hit distinction criteria.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It has brought me a lot more awareness to regulations such as GDPR, Data Retention and Health & Safety. Also it has helped me think more critically about the business and helped me understand the value I bring to the workplace as an apprentice. I have also learned many project management tools through completing my EPA which will serve me well throughout my career.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At Cummins we have EEEC which we are encouraged to participate in at least 4 hours of activities that benefit the community. This helps us network with other Cummins employees as well as members of the community while doing good for the environment or those around us who are disadvantaged or need support.

  • The support and opportunities Cummins offers to it's apprentices and general employees is incredible. The focus on networking and continuous professional development will aid you in your career.   • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cummins?
  • Show that you genuinely demonstrate Cummins core values. Show passion in your written application and throughout the interview process. Have a go getting and positive attitude and show confidence no matter how old you are or how many qualifications/achievements you have to date. Also show that you want to develop personally and professionally.
