  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Barclays has been very accommodating with the opportunity however I do feel as though a lot of aspects were not thought about, technology, level of experience in relation to the course topic. The university have been terrible with course delivery and I have never been so stressed.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Some, however as the university course was so fast paced and has not taken into account the different levels of knowledge or backgrounds. I have been keen to learn but am struggling with the course material to a great extent which has limited my learning experience.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the training Barclays has provided internally and externally however the university has been an absolute nightmare. I have never had the opportunity to go to university and thought this would be a great experience but it is not.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Technology is not compatible with course so I have had to use my personal laptop. In relation to the travel and accommodation, this has been near on perfect. Again, the structure of the university programme has not been great, too fast paced and not enough support for those from a non tech background

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employers have been a great support, especially my line manager. The apprenticeship leaders have also been somewhat supportive however I have on occasions been told to speak with the university who are unhelpful from the start.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support is sporadic which is understandable as I am not the only student that needs support. This is normally done in 15 minute slots which can be very unhelpful as you tend to rush. I don't feel supported at all to be fair.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I don't. I wasn't made aware that this course would mean I would have to build programs, if I knew this, I would not have signed up to it, I have had to make myself enjoy it as I can't quit now.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, Barclays have been fantastic with this. My job gives me hope and helps me to maintain some level of sanity

    8/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Barclays as a company is fantastic to work for, I have been there for 25 years. I would however like to see more women of ethnic minority working in tech roles and being trained accordingly. We tend to shy away as we feel we are not good enough

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • If you're applying for an apprenticeship, ensure you know what the course entails as Barclays did not explain this effectively.
