  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is mostly a processing role at present and involves taking information supplied to us by clients (I'm on the trusts team) and consolidating it within an excel document. From that, a tax return is filled in using the relevant software, and we then create a set of accounts similar to those that a company would have, but just for the clients which gives them a summary of their trust tax position and current financial position.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new Excel tricks in my time within this job. In addition, I have been using a wide range of finance software which I was not familiar with prior to my beginning the job. Further to that I have developed my soft skills and written communication skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The work that I do within the programme is very different to what I studied at university, but despite that it is still interesting and I don't find it overwhelming. As I spend longer in the job, the work has become more varied and as a result, more enjoyable.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured. As I am working for a large firm, they are well versed in receiving graduates, in addition, my company has a very high retention rate and so I predominately work with people who have already gone through the programme, or are further along in the programme.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a fair amount of support from my employer academically. For our CBE's, we get the day before off to study, and half a day to take the CBE. For our larger exams, we get the time off as study leave to go to the education training centre.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a fair amount of support, and my employer pays all the fees for exams and the training, as well as giving us paid time off work to attend the classroom lessons. In addition, they pay for all the exam materials we require to sit the exam, such as past papers, Tolley's, study guides.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel my qualification and the knowledge I gain from the qualification makes me much more productive in my role. This is because I am able to interpret the information I receive better, as opposed to receiving a set of information which doesn't mean anything to me, and just carrying out a process to get an answer, I am able to understand what is going on with the finances of a client and hence recognise issues.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I don't currently get involved in any such activities. However, I do know there are numerous opportunities available , and my company does recommend we get involved in such things, and will cover any expenses we incur whilst doing such things. I also know they have some sports teams like five a side etc.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Crowe UK to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Crowe to a friend because the atmosphere is very friendly, and calm. I had heard horror stories about the work required within an accounting firm, especially in peak times such as January, but my experience has been very pleasant with a very stable support network of colleagues to help if I have an issue with anything.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Crowe UK?
  • I would suggest that they make sure they know which area of the business they want to join, because it is likely at some point in the application process they will want to know what your preference is because they want to make sure they are fitting the right people to the right roles.
