  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Day to day for me is slowly becoming a bit similar. If you are on different clients then your day to day will likely be completely different, as no two audits are the same. My everyday involves anything from testing the cash at bank, payroll, disclosures, casting and reviewing financial accounts, e.c.t.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed a deeper understanding of business, as well as a stronger foundation for my future career; Now knowing how accounting works and how important it is, understand the internal functions of businesses. Crowe provided plenty of training to develop new skills, and actively promotes you to be expanding your skill set with their extraordinarily large development page.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It started off incredibly hard, but I have grown accustomed to the challenge. It will feel difficult at first if you join the program. Joining the Reading office, we have different rules for school leavers compared to other offices, like the London office, so we have longer contracts, however we start at a lower level, AAT L3/L4, before we go onto L7 ACA. This gives a well needed understanding of audit before we are put into the higher level topics.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is a little bit unorganised at first, however it quickly becomes structured, with almost your entire year of study being booked in advance, with all of your exam days prebooked also.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Crowe provides plenty of support, both mentally, physically and emotionally. They have many different help-lines, meditation strategies, and overall just really kind managers who actually treat you as a person and not just a figure on a chart. It is a completely different way of management compared to something you would see in the big 4; Even though Crowe is a smaller company, they are really trying their best to provide the best possible experience to their new starters.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider we work with is incredibly kind. Some of the skills-days and different things that we have to do are a little bit over the top, and can tend to be relatively useless; but the way they teach them is engaging and does build some skills up, such as change management. We are also supported fully with our education, with full time help from our tutors with any subject within our qualification. Furthermore, we are given skill coaches who we are able to work with to fully achieve our goals.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualifications are incredibly important in our roles, every time I complete another lesson, I am seeing exactly what I just worked on in my audit work, and it makes me feel a sense of accomplishment and understanding of what I am actually doing.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Crowe provides a massive amount of opportunities for social events and sports. Here at the Reading office they are implementing monthly social events. Last month was Football and Bowling/Lazer tag, the month before was an audit department meeting-turned-pizza party, and next month we are doing the "Tough-Mudder" obstacle course. They provide plenty of all-expense paid opportunities for social development in the team.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Crowe UK to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The firm genuinely cares about its employees, and ignoring some of the difficulties with starting out here, you will quickly grow accustomed to the job, thanks to the kindness of the team and managers.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Crowe UK?
  • Really put your all into studying, after a few months, or maybe a year, you will get a hang of learning the concepts, and it will make your life so much easier. Look into the business, where it is in the world or in the UK, its current work in local communities and charities, and I cannot stress this enough, relate yourself to its values. They are a very value driven company, and being able to relate yourself to their values (Care, Share, Invest and Grow) will put you ahead of the crowd. And don't over stress the interview period, stay calm, there is a very high pass rate in these interviews, and they are looking for not just talent and smartness, but potential. As long as you can show your willingness to learn and your ability to grow, I am sure they will support you
