  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Working on policies with members of London and Ipswich based teams. Working to ensure lack of BQM failures due to incomplete broking platforms, requiring usage of broking platform systems in order to ensure that the mandatory information is being documented. Working through the renewal process to learn and experience the broking processes

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Learnt Word, Excel, PowerPoint skills after using each of them throughout time on the apprenticeship. Have learnt good time management in order to make sure that the necessary tasks get completed before any potential deadlines. Have learnt how to use specialised systems and their functions in order to make sure that the necessary jobs can be completed.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the apprenticeship programme a lot as there is always something to learn and skills to polish that wold help in the role/ The scheme does a good job of portraying the insurance broking industry and making sure that there is a level of understanding involved throughout in how the different parties involve with each other (underwriters, adjusters etc) - which is what is I personally enjoy the most about the scheme.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The scheme is organised in the sense that there are multiple criteria needed with the growth company, each having their own deadlines where they are expected to be completed by. The team I work with at WTW also allow me to have a dedicated schedule for study and work which works well as a system to balance the work loads.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from the team in both Ipswich and London. There is nearly always someone available whenever help is needed and they are always able to explain what is needed to be done or to clear up any misunderstandings - even if the question is trivial or takes more time that would necessarily be needed to explain the concept.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The help I receive from my skills development tutor is great and she is incredibly supportive throughout the process, helping to develop plans for studying and goals with other criteria for the course. The provided workshops are not as good, usually being either too long or too short to be effective and things not explained in the best way (though part of this is personal learning style clashing with teaching style)

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that it helps a lot due to the knowledge and understanding that studying for each qualification gives you. It allows you to understand more difficult concepts and apply them to the role, which in turn allows you to -perform your role better and with more efficiency - thus helping with the role overall

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I have attended a couple of events at local a high school to help advertise and explain details about the apprenticeship scheme and the experience gained from the process. Aside from these events I have not attended any other extra-curricular activities, though I have seen them advertised somewhat frequently over emails and intranet pages.

  • 9a. Would you recommend WTW to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend the scheme to a friend due to the support from the skills development tutor and (assuming this can be applied to the other teams in the company) the support from the team that I work with on a daily basis. Not only that but it is a great opportunity to get into a competitive market.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to WTW?
  • I would advise anyone applying to have the best mindset towards the course they can have due to the fact that the application is not an easy process and the job role is not easy either due to the sheer amount of information to learn which can be quite overwhelming all at once. I would also advise that you should ask questions and not be afraid to do so, most people would be happy to help no matter the question.
